This weekend is the American Radio Relay League (ARRL) 10 meter radio contest, which the HCRA enters as a club every year. The contest runs from 00:00 UTC on December 14th – 23:59 UTC December 15th (19:00 EST Friday to 18:59 EST Sunday). This is a great contest for beginning and experienced contest operators alike. Technician-class hams can operate on a significant portion of the 10 meter (28 MHz) band, which has featured exceptionally good conditions lately. In this contest, both CW and SSB contacts count, so pick your favorite mode or do both. Complete rules are here.
Joining the club effort is easy. Get on the air for an hour or the whole weekend, log some contacts, and just remember to put “Hampden County Radio Association” in the “CLUB” field of your Cabrillo-formatted log before submitting it. If you need help with any aspect of contest operation, just check in with the experienced hams on our email reflector, and someone will most likely be able to help. Most importantly, have fun!
