Field Day 2018

It’s over except for the paperwork! If you don’t see your name where you think it should be, or see any other errors of omission please let us know so we can correct the record.

Thanks to everyone who participated, without out you it wouldn’t be any fun! See you next year.

HAMPDEN COUNTY RADIO ASSOCIATION FIELD DAY 2018

W1NY

Hello Everyone !

I just wanted to take this opportunity to send a sincere THANK YOU! To
all of you who participated in the HCRA Field Day 2018 exercise a short
time ago … whether operating or helping with setup and/or any of the
other dozens of tasks required to make it happen.

While we don’t have any scores tabulated just yet, those that know about
those things tell me that it looks like we had a great FD this year ….
And credit for that certainly goes to all of you !

Let me give a special shoutout to Rockwell (WW1X) and  Chris (W1TRK) for
overseeing the antenna and tower setups and to Mike (N1TA) for his
assistance with the networking along with Rockwell and for helping with
the logging files. Jeff (NT1K), thanks for your help with the
documentation and setup suggestions based on last year. Vanessa (KC1IRL)
and Nadine (KB1VSX), thank you for your many varied contributions too
numerous to mention also.

… and how about a round of applause for Faye’s cooking, Renata and
Juergen (NV1Q) for providing some delicious food treats. And special
thanks to Gary (AA1UE) for his efforts to contact our orbiting brethren !!

Last, but not least, my hat’s off to Larry (W1AST) for the three
thousand things that would not have got done had he not offered his help
on an almost daily basis !!

I may have missed some of you for sure and for that I apologize but you
can be certain I really appreciate the efforts from each and every one
of you that helped in any way.

With that, I declare FD2018 formally closed! Now let’s see what we can
do to make it even better for 2019.

FIELD DAY RAFFLE FOR VOLUNTEERS

For those individuals who are helping with the setup and teardown will be entered into a raffle for 1 of 2 ubitx HF radios ($110 ea approximate value). It’s an excellent mostly built kit that requires some simple soldering of cables and a few components. The ubitx offers 80-10m SSB and CW operation with up to 10w output. It’s an excellent rig to have around. To sweeten the deal, Jeffrey Bail (NT1K) has donated a couple aluminum cases designed around the ubitx. It will require some hardware and paint (if needed).

Winners were Larry (KD1RV) and John (K1VOI). Congrats!

HCRA RAFFLE 2018/2019

WIN THIS ICOM 7300

The Hampden County Radio Association is raffling off an ICOM-7300 100w HF/6M Transceiver. ($1100 Value). HCRA has only printed 250 tickets and will be for sale at field day and at meetings. Tickets are just $10 each. The item will be raffled once all 250 tickets are sold at the following meeting or at the MTARA’s hamfest in March of 2019 (Which ever comes first)

The IC-7300 is an excellent HF radio packed full of features including a direct conversion “SDR” type receiver with a real time touch-screen spectrum scope.

SATURDAY NIGHT PICNIC
Approx 5:30pm

BRING A CHAIR

HCRA will be hosting a Saturday night picnic for members and guests in attendance. We will be cooking up Hamburgers/Cheeseburgers and Hot dogs along with some snack food. We ask that you help out by bringing something along like snack food (chips) or a desert. It should be a great time with great people. If you are coming just for the picnic, please fill out the volunteer/guest form and check off that you will be attending the picnic. That way we can purchase the proper amount of food and avoiding waste. All leftover food & drink will be donated to the Springfield Rescue Mission.

A BIG thanks goes out to Larry and Faye Krainson  for helping to make this possible.

DONATE TO HCRA

We’re looking for donations to help cover the costs of field day. Any ammount would be grateful. Money will be used to purchase food, drinks and equipment needed for Field Day. You can use either your credit card or paypal account by clicking the button below. Thank you for your donation!

Resources For Volunteers:

HCRA will be using handheld/portable radios on site for communications. We will be using 146.580MHz/146.595MHz simplex within the ground. We will also be using the K1ZJH repeater (146.7150-  PL:100) for talk-ins and to communicate with those outside the park. Please make sure your radios are charged and programmed to support these frequencies

Even though HCRA will be providing tools for each tower/antenna, it’s suggested you bring your own tools that could speed up installation. Tools suggested would be battery powered drill, impact driver w/ screw and socket adapters, metric/SAE hex bits, nut drivers, screwdriver set, knife and gloves. Please use caution when dealing with impact gun to or drill to not strip threads.

We ask that anyone who is visiting and/or volunteering at the FD site to use the parking lots that are located on either school street or Corey street. Do not drive on the pathway into the park/bandshell with the exception of station captains or those bringing in equipment. We will be locking the gate, anyone staying overnight will have the option to bring their vehicle in during the night.

All questions during Field Day should be directed to the appropriate person. Antennas will be directed to Rockwell (WW1X), towers will be directed to Chris (W1TRK),,  Station/Camper location will be directed to Bob (K1YO). Please use the radio

Lunch will be provided to volunteers during Friday setup in form of a pizza (possibly from bella napoli in west springfield). If you have any type of allergy, please consider bringing in your own lunch. There will be plenty of water on hand for volunteers. Mark your bottles!

We ask that you leave School Street park better than when we found it. Please pickup your trash and any other trash that you might see during your time at School Street park. Let’s show the people of Agawam how professional and clean we are. Overnight guests should pickup before going to bed.

Below are some links and manuals that will be used at HCRA field day, it’s suggested that you glance over them to get a general idea of assembly and installation of the towers and antennas
